SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: I am currently publishing my version of The Set Apart Scriptures – The MCV Bible, link here: https://thetruthnotdoctrine.wordpress.com
Introduction
I must say, that I am always thankful for any e-mails I receive, be they positive or negative, for it’s all grist for the mill, and none more so than the misuse of the above verse of Set Apart Scripture.
First, though, a little back ground to this epistle to the Ephesians, for according to Adam Clarke’s Commentary, there are some scholars who believe that this epistle was actually written to the Laodiceans and/or perhaps to both church areas. If that is the case, and we tie in Ephesians 4 with what The Yahavah says to the Laodiceans in Revelation 3, we can easily come to the conclusion that Paul was having problems with some of the brethren in both these Assemblies. In fact, if we analyse Paul’s letters as a whole, most of the time, we have to admit that he was dealing with problem members and people who were going seriously astray in nearly all those fellowships.
OK, having laid that little foundation, and without further ado, I will explain first how this Set Apart Scripture was misused. The person concerned used it as if it applied to well grounded born of Yah, sons and daughters of Yah, which in turn, also meant he used it out of context. If we do that with certain Set Apart Scriptures we will only ever do one thing; spiritually abuse those around us – our brothers and sisters. Fortunately for me I can smell these people a mile off and quickly kick them into touch before they get too close; metaphorically speaking of course. So let’s have a look at the preceding verses of Ephesians chapter 4 to get an understanding of what Paul was dealing with here.
Ephesians 4:1 (MCV) I therefore, the prisoner of The Yahavah, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.
Wow! Well there’s an opener that sets the scene, and supports what I said above about troublesome elements in the first century assemblies, and what, specifically, is this verse telling us? Quite simply, it’s telling us there is a problem with this group of non-Israelite Christians, for Paul is beseeching them or imploring them to walk worthily within their calling.
Now what kind of Christians need this kind of exhorting and/or written admonishment? Easy, those who are not walking worthily, but what does ‘not walking worthily’ mean? Were they just sinning, or sinning with attitude, and what do I mean by: ‘sinning with attitude’? Again that’s easy, they would have had the wrong attitude towards their sinful ways. Basically, the problem was this: they were sinning or treating sin as they had always done before their calling, so they were trampling all over the Yahavah Yashua Messiah’s sacrifice, or treating His sacrifice with contempt, and this is what it means to “not walk worthily” or have the wrong attitude to sin. They were sinning without so much as a thought as to what they were doing. This was the problem Paul had to deal with here.
Ephesians 4:2-3 (MCV) With all lowliness and Power under control (meekness), with patience (longsuffering), forbearing one another in agape Love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Set Apart Exclusive Spirit in the bond of Peace.
Paul now moves on to the characteristics of humility, or modesty and meekness which means power under control, with patience, bearing with one another in agape Love. So this must mean there were people in these Assemblies not showing any signs of these characteristics, so they were in pretty bad shape Spiritually speaking, and were obviously deserving of Paul’s exhortations. What I will again re-emphasise here is this: what have these beseechings got to do with grounded and faithful born of Yah sons or daughters of Yah? Err, nothing, absolutely nothing! They apply solely to wayward sons or daughters who are not displaying these characteristics and are treating The Yahavah’s sacrifice with contempt.
Ephesians 4:3-6 (MCV) Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Set Apart Exclusive Spirit in the bond of Peace. 4 There is one body, and one set apart Exclusive Spirit, according as ye are/were called in one expectation of your calling; 5 One Yahavah, one Faith, one Baptism into Yashua Messiah’s Name alone, (see link No. 1 below). 6 One Yah and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
In verse 3 we can see they were arguing, and were not at peace with one another at all, so it was a fellowship at odds, and possibly on the verge of dividing. In verses 4 and 5 Paul has to teach them the basics again, telling them they were called with hope for their futures, or that great things were expected of them, so obviously, again, there were no signs of these expectations showing, that is, no fruits. In verse 5, Paul tells them some more basics, stuff they should have already known. What we can also begin to see here is an Assembly with a sizeable number of Spiritual babes in its midst, which would explain why their calling is mentioned with hopes and expectations attached.
Ephesians 4:7 (MCV) But unto every one of us is given Grace according to the measure of the gift of The Messiah – The Anointed.
Paul then reaffirms that The Yahavah Yashua Messiah had granted them all sufficient Grace so they were in effect without excuse. We then jump to verses 11-13
Ephesians 4:11-13 (MCV) And He gave some, Messengers; and some, the gift of prophecy; and some, pioneers of The Word; and some, shepherds and teachers; 12 For the maturing of The Elect (those Set Apart called and chosen ones), for the work in Yah’s service, for the up-building and uplifting of the body of The Messiah – The Anointed: 13 Till we all come in the unity of The Faith, and of the realisation of The Son of Yah, unto a mature man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of The Messiah – The Anointed:
Again we have evidence of this Assembly’s novice status, because much maturing and acquiring of knowledge needs to be done. Please note, the words ‘perfecting’ and ‘perfect’ are poor translations here, for we are made perfect at Baptism, with the receiving of the gift of the Set Apart Exclusive Spirit. A check of the Greek Manuscripts will reveal that where the translators have used ‘perfect’ and ‘perfecting’ it should read ‘down equipping’ for perfecting and ‘mature’ for perfect. These are just more sly examples of the translators trying to kid you that the ‘perfecting of the saints’ is a process, when in Truth perfection comes with the gift of the Set Apart Exclusive Spirit. Moreover, gaining maturity is gaining maturity, it’s not perfection, for some of us will become more mature than others, but that lack of maturity will not detract from our position in The Messiah. Our salvation is sure if we keep on believing and grow in Faith. It all depends upon what we have been given in first place, for to whom much is given, much will be expected in return. Please read the Parable of The Talents for the details in Matthew 25:15-30.
Ephesians 4:14-15 (MCV) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of evil hu-man beings, and cunning craftiness of The Serpent Seed, and their servants, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking The Truth in agape Love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is The Head, The Messiah – The Anointed:
Here we actually get confirmation of what I have been saying. This Assembly consisted of many Spiritual babes; for Paul was saying to them do not be deceived by doctrines of devils, of the men of the Cainite-Judeo-Christian Religion (see link Nos. 2 and 3 below), who were lying in wait ready to lead these novices astray. It’s just the same today folks, so what are you going to do about it? Sit there each week listening to their non-gospel of salvation by works until The Yahavah Yashua Messiah returns, only to be told: “Depart from me ye who work iniquity.” It really is up to you to make that bold step, and The Yahavah Yashua Messiah will do the rest, for it’s time to grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even The Messiah – The Anointed.
Ephesians 4:17-21 (MCV) This I say therefore, and testify in The Yahavah, that ye henceforth walk not as other non-Israelites walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of Yah through the ignorance that is in them, because of the callousness and blindness of their hearts: 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto wantonness and lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have not so learned from The Messiah – The Anointed; 21 If so be that ye have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as The Truth is in Yashua:
Here we can see, as I said earlier, that they were walking as if they were still in the world, still in vanity, with darkened evil minds and alienating themselves from Yah once more in blindness. Notice the word ‘blindness’ in reference to the lost and unsaved here, proving yet again that the lost can only ever be lost until the Father open their eyes to see His Son:
John 6:44 (MCV) NO MAN can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me drag him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:65 (MCV) And He said, Therefore said I unto you, That NO MAN can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
John 1:10-13 (MCV) He was in The World, and The World was made by Him, and The World knew Him not. 11 He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. 12 But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of Yah, even to them that believe on His name: 13 WHICH WERE BORN, NOT OF BLOOD, NOR OF THE WILL OF THE FLESH, NOR OF THE WILL OF MAN, BUT BY THE WILL OF YAH (THE FATHER).
Paul then reminds them that they have not been taught by men, instead, they have been taught by The Messiah, and if they have heard Him, that is, through the Set Apart Exclusive Spirit, they are in The Truth, for The Yahavah Yashua Messiah is The Truth. Again, these are the basics that they should have understood, but treated unworthily, hence we now have the title verse:
Ephesians 4:22-24 (MCV) That ye put off concerning the former behaviour of the old man (which died in the watery grave of Baptism), which is corrupt according to the seductive desires and deceitful lusts;
23 And be rejuvenated and renewed in the Set Apart Exclusive Spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after Yah is created in righteousness, and in a true state of being Set Apart – Called and Chosen.
These verses are all about renewal, and when I say renewal, I mean renewal, not the mickey mouse renewal of mainstream fakestream Christianity, where they have a meaningless renewal every two weeks. LOL. These people had gone seriously astray, they were back sliders, and Paul told them straight to put off the old man that they had put back on. That is what Paul is saying here. This verse has nothing to do with Faithful believers, for they have already put off their old man and did so at Baptism. The old man dies in the watery grave – kaput never to be seen again unless we are like these silly Ephesians, and go back to our old ways, but not only that, but to do it without a thought towards our Saviour or to treat our calling unworthily.
One final point, which I should have covered earlier, is the strange archaic use of the word ‘conversation’, which in this sense really means ‘behaviour’.
Two final points, which I should have covered earlier: 1) is the strange archaic use of the word ‘conversation’, which in this sense really means ‘behaviour’ and 2) the lost and unsaved have only an old man, for they do not have a new man. The New Man is created at Baptism, so mark, learn and inwardly digest, all you blind guides that tell those new to the Faith that Baptism is no longer necessary.
